温莎大学新生入学手册之生活篇

　　本文系bb参考一些资料并结合自己的亲身经历写成，如有不正确的地方，请大家回帖指出，我会不断更新此帖。

　　1．行程与接机

　　a) 最好买从北京(或上海)飞到温莎的连票，中间会在温哥华和多伦多转机(转机自己不用管行李)。

　　b) 如果在多伦多下机，可以到灰狗汽车站(Greyhound Station，网址: www.greyhound.ca)坐汽车或者到Via Rail Station(网址: www.viarail.ca)坐火车到温?汽车火车价格差不多，全票80块左右，买半票要学生卡，如果运气好，用你刚在机场办好的学生签证也可以顶替)；

　　c) 你也可能找到从多伦多到温莎的顺路车(carpool)，一般的价格是$20。但是此法对新生不推荐，以防上当。

　　d) 到了温莎以后，就好办了。温莎大学国际学生中心(International Student Centre)有一个Soft Landing Program，以下是其详细情况：

　　Soft Landing

　　The Soft-Landing Program will operate between Monday, August 23 to Monday, September 13, 2004.
　　The Soft-Landing Program involves coordinating pick-ups for international students  from their points of arrival in Windsor, and arranging temporary accommodation for them by entering into agreements at nearly motels for discounted rates.
　　Students are able to stay for free at the motel during their first night in Canada thanks to University subsidies, and pay reduced rates for the remainder of their stay until they can move into University Residences or find off-campus accommodation.
　　Students wishing to use the Soft-Landing Service are required to submit their travel information online. 这里有个sign-up链接，需要访问http://cronus.uwindsor.ca/units/international/student.nsf才能激活。
　　We will be using the Econo Lodge Motel again, but students should NOT contact the motel directly. All arrangements must be made through the ISC. In addition, these arrangements are for new international students only and the rates do not apply to parents.

　　The ISC will be providing all new international students with the following:

　　1) A full subsidy for the entire first night stay at the Econo Lodge, regardless of which night is the student's first night. Therefore, even on the nights where the motel rate increases, the ISC will cover the full cost if it is the student's first night.
　　For any additional nights, the student will be responsible for paying at the following rates:
　　August 23 to September 2 - $31.63
　　September 3 and 4 (Friday and Saturday) - $54.63
　　September 5 (Sunday) - $43.13
　　September 6 to 13 - $31.63
　　PLEASE NOTE: All the above rates are based on double-occupancy. Any student not wishing to share a room will be responsible for the full rate without subsidy!
　　These rates are based on verbal agreements between ISC staff and motel management and NOT CONFIRMED. We expect to be able to confirm these rates when the contract is signed, and this will happen in mid-July at earliest.

　　2) A free cab ride to the Econo Lodge Motel is ONLY available from the following points of arrival:
　　Windsor Airport
　　Windsor Via Rail Station
　　Windsor Greyhound Station (downtown)
　　RobertQ arrival point (Holiday Inn Select, Huron Church Road)
　　
　　For transportation from Windsor points of arrival to the Econo Lodge Motel students need to do the following:
　　They will be required to phone the cab company upon arrival at 1-866-TAXI-R-US (1-866-829-4787).
　　When calling, the student must mention that they are a "new international student of the University of Windsor", and provide account number 1079).
　　The student must also be prepared to show the cab driver his / her acceptance letter, proving he / she is a newly accepted international student.
　　Cab drivers are aware that for the fare to be charged to the University, the student must be taken only to the Econo Lodge Motel. Any other destination will be charged to the student.

　　e) 如果错过了接机人员，你可以坐公交车从机场、灰狗汽车站或者Via Rail Station到学校。公交车费是$2.25，上车记得要Transfer(转票)，只要不往反方向走，可以凭此票登上其他三个方向的公车。温莎公交路线图：/maps/map_bus_routes.pdf，pdf文件，用Acrobat打开。

　　2．租房

　　a) 学校提供的学生宿舍：贵！详情参见：http://athena.uwindsor.ca/residence。

　　b) basement单间:约$150~220/month；

　　c) house单间:$220~350/month；

　　d) apartment:$350~900/month,视条件、大小而定。

　　e) 房东一般需要你预付第一个月和最后一个月的房租；房租有的是已包括水、电、气、cable等等的，有的不包括，有的只包括一部分，开始的时候要问清楚。

　　3．购物

　　a) 中国店：温莎的中国店店面一般不大，主要经营东方食品。较著名中国店有：
　　永利: Wyandotte St. 和 Rankin Ave. 交叉处；
　　明利: 1015 University West, University Ave. 和 Oak St. 交叉处，每个周末会有很多新鲜蔬菜和食品上货；
　　华越: Wyandotte St. & Bruce Ave. 交叉处。

　　b) 超市：
　　Food Basics:一处在Dufferin St. 和 Elliott St.交叉处(Downtown)，一处在 2491 Dougall Ave., Dougall 和 Eugeni交叉处，主营食品，相对较便宜；
　　Price Chopper:在Wyandotte St. 和 Crawford St.交叉处，经营食品，百货；
　　Joseph Farm Market:在California St 和 Tecumseh Rd. W.交叉处(University Mall 的斜对面)，主营新鲜蔬菜水果，价位较低；
　　Zellers: 在Ambassador Plaza，经营食品、百货、电器等。
　　Wal-Mart: 在Gateway Plaza, Dougall Ave，经营百货、电器等。
　　A&P:在University Mall,College St. 和 Huron Church St. 交叉处，经营食品，百货；
　　Shoppers’s drug Mart: 在Wyandotte和Campbell交叉口有一家，另一家比较近的在University Mall，经营食品、百货、医药等；
　　Canadian Tire: 在University Mall，经营工具，汽车零配件，电器等;
　　Dollar Mart:即一元店，经营各种小百货；
　　FutureShop: 主营电器、电脑，网址：http://www.futureshop.ca。

　　4．邮政

　　a) 平信邮资：加拿大国内：$0.49；美国：$0.80；国际：$1.40．

　　b) 地点：寄平信投入校园、各Shopper’s Drug Mart门口的红色邮筒即可；寄包裹等在各Shopper’s Drug Mart里面有营业点。

　　5．银行

　　大多学生选择 TD Canadatrust(道明银行),因为离学校近。也可以选择其他银行，如CIBC, Royal, Scotia, HSBC等等。刚开学人比较多，要预约排队，大家尽早办理(因为有些地方需要你的银行帐号)，估计有的折腾。

　　6．电话

　　a) 市内公用电话是$0.25(一个Quarter硬币)每次，所以刚开始最好在机场或者商店换几个备用。

　　b) 安装、转移或者取消市内电话：打电话给Bell公司即可(电话：310-2355)。安装后，每月付座机费$25，市内电话免费。

　　c) 长途电话：可以与Bell公司或者其他长途电话服务公司联系，电话单每月寄到；也可以买长途电话卡，打往中国用 golden card 或者 cici card 不错。

　　d) 手机：普通机型一般免费送，通话费用较高。

　　e) 如果几个人住一个House，可以大家share一个电话省钱。

　　7．上网

　　a) 可以到学校计算机中心和图书馆免费上网，图书馆上网需要学生卡号码(刚开始几天可能还办不下来)，计算机中心不需要。

　　b) 电话上网：AOL不错，前三个月免费。

　　c) 宽带上网：
　　Cogeco Cable: http://www.cogeco.ca 一般是每个月$50左右，前三个月半价。
    Bell Sympatico: http://www.bell.sympatico.ca 首月免费，第2～4月半价。

　　d) 如果几个人住一个House，可以大家share宽带省钱。
